See how a Course Works: Intro to Online Learning
Description
Security threats are increasing in number and severity, and the gap between the need for security professionals and qualified IT personnel is the largest of any IT specialty, according to a 2008 CompTIA study. Even in a troubled economy, most businesses plan to maintain or increase their investment in security.
This program is designed to prepare you for the CompTIA Security+ (2008 edition) certification exam (SY0-201). CompTIA is the Computing Technology Industry Association, and the Security+ certification designation indicates knowledge in system security, network infrastructure, access control, and organizational security.
Upon completion of this program, you’ll have the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the field of network security and how it relates to other areas of information technology. You’ll know how to implement and maintain network security, as well as how to handle authentication, remote access, wireless networks, and security groups.
Upon successful completion of this program, you’ll:
- Demonstrate knowledge of security threats
- Understand communication and infrastructure security
- Gain knowledge about cryptography, access control, and authentication
- Prevent against external attack

- When you enroll in the program, you’re given three months to complete it. If you need more time, you’ll receive a three-month extension at no charge. If you require another extension beyond the free 3-month extension, you can pay a $75.00 U.S. (licensing fee) to Gatlin International for a six-month extension. These extensions will be consecutive (one after the other), so if you step away from the program and come back ready to resume your education, you may do so after paying the licensing fee. This fee may change from one year to the next. Please don’t request an extension until you’ve almost run out of time (determined by end date). This way, you have the option of stepping away from the program for a while if needed, and upon returning, you may catch up, use the free extension, or pay for an additional license in order to complete the program.
