Instructor

David Sklar is an award-winning designer and the developer of Star Island, located in the Bahamas and slated to be the world’s first “green” island resort community.  Star Island has been featured extensively in the national media, including The New York Times, Travel + Leisure, National Geographic, Newsweek, ABC News, Ocean Home, The Bahamas Investor, and the Travel Channel. In recognition of his innovative eco-sensitive design solutions, Mr. Sklar has been honored to speak at prestigious organizations including the United Nations, Stanford University, the University of Maryland, and the American Embassy in the Bahamas.  He spoke at the New York Academy of Sciences in April 2010, and at the end of this past year, he lobbied Congress to pass the American Clean Energy and Security Act as part of the delegation from the Environmental Defense Fund. He has also been invited to present at the United Nations this spring for the Program on Realization of Sustainable Renewable Energy Cities & Island Projects. Mr. Sklar is a member of Newsweek’s Global Environment Leadership Advisory Board and a subject matter expert on sustainable development for the World Education Council. Mr. Sklar holds a Professional Degree in Architecture from the University of Tennessee.
