Mike Aponte was the leader of the MIT Blackjack Team, a group of college students that formed a high stakes card counting team which went on to legally beat Vegas for millions. The team’s story first came to light in the New York Times bestseller, Bringing Down The House, in which Mike’s tale is told through the character, “Jason Fisher.” The exploits of the MIT Blackjack Team became the basis for the major motion picture, 21. By the end of his professional blackjack career, Mike had become one of the most infamous and feared players in the casino world. As a result, Mike is now banned from playing 21 at casinos around the world. After the MIT Blackjack Team’s amazing run, Mike won the first World Series of Blackjack Championship in 2004 and later became the first blackjack player ever featured on a Topps playing card. Mike has been featured in numerous publications such as the New York Times and the Washington Post, as well as television shows such as HBO Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.
