Description

Learn how to integrate exercise science curriculum and practical training techniques into a systematic model that will help your female clients progress through the various phases of their lives. The Women's Exercise Training and Wellness Online Program prepares graduating students for a career working with women of all ages at medically-based fitness facilities, YMCAs, JCCs, community wellness programs, personal training studios, physical therapy clinics, health promotion sites, corporate sites, and private and commercial health clubs. In addition, female health and exercise enthusiasts can take this program to gain information to design a personalized exercise program for their own needs.

This certificate program includes education on the following topics:

  • A medically-based fitness model to use with your clients
  • An examination of the musculoskeletal and functional anatomy of the female pelvis
  • How to establish exercise programs and prescriptions, exercise-related goals and objectives, appropriate training modifications, and program evaluation strategies
  • Health considerations women face at different stages of their lives and how to appropriately adapt exercise and wellness programs to meet their needs
  • How to design exercise programs for special populations of women
  • Key terminology in medicine, health promotion, and fitness

The program is offered in partnership with the Women's Health Foundation and Healthy Moms® Fitness, which provide graduating certificate students with a preferred discount on both the Women's Health Foundation Total Control exam and the Healthy Moms® Perinatal Fitness Instructor Certification exam and related study materials.

Continuing Education Credits/Units
The following national organizations and associations have approved each Women's Exercise Training and Wellness program  for CEC/CEUs:

  • The American Senior Fitness Association (SFA):2.0 CEUs per program
  • The Health and Fitness Professionals Association (HFPA): 30 CECs per program
  • The National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF): 10 CEUs per program
  • The National Federation of Professional Trainers (NFPT): 1 CEC per program, equivalent to an entire six-month CEC requirement
  • The National Strength Professional Association (NSPA): 2 CEUs per program

Upon registering, you're given an initial six months to complete the program. If you need more time, you may request a three-month extension at no additional charge. Should you need more time beyond the three-month extension, a fee of $300 will apply.

By completing the Women's Exercise Training and Wellness Program, you'll:

  • Know key terminology used to describe body parts and reference positions
  • Understand the physiology of the endocrine system
  • Use ACSM guidelines and recommendations for creating an exercise prescription
  • Learn how to set goals and objectives for apparently healthy women
  • Learn what conditions make the female athlete triad and understand common signs and symptoms
  • Review the Medical Fitness Model: Facility Standards & Guidelines published by the Medical Fitness Association (MFA) organization
  • Learn how medical professionals can improve the fitness profession
  • Understand the medically-based fitness model

All of our programs are self-paced and open enrollment, so you can start them when you want and finish them at your own pace. Most programs allow you 180 days after you register to complete them. If you need more time, extensions are available.

Instructor

Jasmine Jafferali, MPH, ACE-CPT is the program coordinator and an instructor for the Women's Exercise Training and Wellness Program. She has a diverse fitness background with over ten years of industry experience in campus recreation, corporate wellness, and the commercial health club setting. She has presented on a wide range of health and fitness topics for the community, at major corporations, and at national and international conferences. She also advocates bringing the fitness and medical community together through wellness and preventative programming. Jasmine specializes in Women's Health and Wellness, focusing on prenatal and postnatal fitness and is a master trainer for Healthy Moms® Fitness and Resist-a-ball®.

Prerequisites/Audience

There are no specific prerequisites to enter this program, other than an Internet connection, an e-mail address, and basic computer knowledge.

This program is for you if you're:

  • A current allied health or medical or fitness professional interested in developing safe and effective exercise programs for women
  • A current fitness manager or director wishing to manage and market new programs to women
  • An education director of a multi-site facility or chain who wants to train fitness professionals to work with women
  • A company that requires the certificate program as a professional development program for employees
  • A female exercise enthusiast interested in learning about exercise program design and health and wellness
Requirements/Materials Included

This program can be taken from either a Mac or a PC. Technical requirements include, but are not limited to, having Internet access with a 56K modem (but it’s highly recommended that you have DSL or high-speed cable Internet access),  64 MB system RAM, 200 MB free hard-disk space memory or sufficient storage, reliable e-mail account access, CD-ROM/DVD capabilities, and a reliable Internet provider. Some individual programs may have additional software or hardware requirements.
